Frequently Asked Questions
Instructors who have completed an IHF CFR Update Session should obtain a copy of the IHF CFR Instructor Pack from their Training Site Coordinator. This pack should provide all of the information instructors need to start teaching CFR Courses. It contains information regarding the CFR Course including timetables, lesson maps, etc.
Where can I do an IHF CFR Instructor Update Session?
The Foundation will only be able to recognise Update Sessions conducted by BLS Provincial Faculty Members. IHF CFR Update Sessions are being conducted by our BLS Provincial Faculty throughout the country. These sessions are free and take approximately 2-3 hours to complete. There is no skills assessment although you will be required to attend for the entire session and to also successfully complete MCQs. Following this session you will become certified as a PHECC CFR Instructor. Your PHECC CFR Instructor Certificate will be issued directly from the Irish Heart Foundation to you within 30 days of receipt of the appropriate paperwork from the organising Faculty Member following the update session.
Why does the IHF not recognise training by PHECC Instructors who do not have IHF/AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor Certification?
Only currently certified IHF/AHA Instructors can be recognised teaching IHF/AHA courses. As the Heartsaver AED and Healthcare Provider Courses form the basis of the Foundation’s CFR Courses instructors must be appropriately certified to teach those portions of each course.
The Irish Heart Foundation’s CFR Responder course uses the Heartsaver AED Course as its basis and the CFR Practitioner Course uses the BLS for Healthcare Provider Course as its basis. Each course has a standard CFR add on module to include the appropriate CFR requisites and each course is dually certified by both the IHF/AHA and PHECC. Instructors will only be able to continue teaching CFR Courses through the Foundation’s Programme as long as they continue to hold current IHF/AHA Certification.
Where can I purchase PHECC Manuals and the PHECC CFR DVD from?
IHF Instructors can order PHECC Manuals and DVD’s through their IHF Training Site Coordinator who will be able to purchase them at the discounted rate from PHECC.
Where do I get PHECC CFR Certificates from?
CFR Certificates will be issued to Training Site Coordinators in the usual manner as IHF/AHA Course Completion Cards are currently ordered.
How long do I have to complete an update?
If you wish to teach the CFR Course you should attend a CFR Update Session as soon as possible. The number of sessions available will diminish over time and you should ensure you have completed one by the end of December 2009 when they will no longer be held.
How long does CFR Instructor Certification last?
Like IHF/AHA Instructor Certification, CFR Instructor Certification lasts for two years.
