Stroke.ie – which is supported by an educational grant from Covidien – is set to drive the Irish Heart Foundation’s campaign for better stroke services in Ireland as well as helping to bridge the chronic information gap that faces stroke survivors and their families.
Chris Macey, Irish Heart Foundation Head of Advocacy said: “The Irish Heart Foundation is engaged in an intensive campaign to secure the change necessary to eliminate avoidable death and disability from stroke in this country. Stroke.ie is set to play a vital role in enabling people in every corner of Ireland to support our efforts both to improve services in their local area and nationally as well.”
The new website contains a campaign centre providing a step-by-step guide on how to communicate with politicians effectively, along with practical ways to support attempts at a national level to gain a better deal for people in Ireland who are affected by this sudden cardiovascular event. In addition, the site will provide information and advice for stroke survivors and their families in easy to read formats.
Mr Macey added: “Stroke can have a devastating effect both on the people who are struck down and on their loved ones. The best way we can help is to provide clear and concise information about all the issues that might arise. It is our intention that this site will become a world class source of that information.”
See www.stroke.ie for more information. The Irish Heart Foundation is also encouraging more stroke survivors to come forward to share their stories and join its campaign.
