Membership
Membership which is FREE is open to anyone who has had a cardiac event, or any ailment of the heart. We also welcome the family carers of such people.

Aims & Objectives

  • We are here to support each other and our family carers
  • We strive to get as much up-to-date information on medication, diet, lifestyle etc. to enable each of us to live as healthy a life as possible within our individual limitations.
  • We create a forum for guest experts to advise us on different aspects of heart health care.
  • We support and encourage those before, and after surgery  and/or procedures.

Membership Criteria
People who have had a cardiac event such as a heart attack, had angioplasty with or with out stents inserted, or who have had cardiac surgery (By-pass surgery, Mitral valve surgery, etc.). When there are guest speakers: -- partners, family, friends or carers are welcome to participate.

Aims and Objectives

  • To give support to people with heart problems and their partners/family.
  • To give support and encouragement to each other in a social setting, sharing a common bond.
  • Sharing experiences, fear and anxieties, thus learning how others have coped in similar circumstances.
  • Provide information and invite guest speakers for requested topics on heart health.
  • To be a source of contact for people waiting for heart surgery.

Cardiac Support Groups, South Lee Community Care Area, Co. Cork

1.    ‘Heart Throbs’ Cardiac Support Group meet on the 2nd Monday of the month in Bishopstown  Library, Wilton Shopping Centre at 11am

2.    Douglas and District Cardiac Support Group meet on the 1st Thursday of the month in the Lion House, Douglas at 11am.

3.    Kinsale and District Cardiac Support Group meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month in ‘Havenbay Care Centre’, Kinsale at 7.30pm.

4.    Bandon Cardiac Support Group meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month in the Town Hall, Bandon at 2.30pm.

Aims and Objectives

  • To provide encouragement, support and information to patients following cardiac surgery, heart attack or treatment for angina
  • To motivate members to be compliant with exercise, healthy eating and medication
  • To provide members with up-to-date information on all aspects of heart disease.
  • The support group compliments the services already offered by health professionals.

Bantry Cardiac Support Group

The group was set up in February 2006

The group was set up in October 2006

CARDIAC SUPPORT GROUP - NORTH CORK

The  group was formed in April 2008 by an active group of former heart patients with the following aims & objectives

Aims & Objectives:
1.    To support people with heart problems, their partners and family members
2.    To provide a means of social interaction
3.    To be a source of contact for people waiting and recovering from heart surgery / procedures
4.    To provide education, information and guest speakers on a range of heart health topics
5.    To organise social and activity events
6.    To lobby for services and compliment services already offered by health professionals
7.    To support members in keeping motivated and up to date

We Meet:
Venue: Day Care Centre Mallow
Date: 2nd last Monday of every Month @ 8pm

Membership:
Membership is open to anyone who has had a cardiac event to other heart related problems. We also welcome partners and family members. A membership fee of €10 will ensure you receive timely notification of all our events and other relevant information throughout the year.

ACTIVE HEART TRALEE

Venue: Kerins O Rahilly G.A.A. Club, Strand Road, Tralee
Meeting time: 8 PM, 4th Wednesday of every month, bar December

The group was set up on May 2009 by Kay Karim (cardiac nurse in KGH) and a group of cardiac patients, with the following aims and objectives:

1.    Support people with heart problems and their partners and families.
2.    To give support and encouragement to each other in a social setting, sharing a common bond.
3.    Sharing experiences, fears and anxieties, thus learning how others have coped with similar circumstances.
4.    Provide information and invite guest speakers for requested topics on heart health.
5.    To be a source of contact for people waiting for heart surgery, and aftercare.

Membership: Membership is €10 yearly and is open to anyone who has had a cardiac event. We also welcome family members and carers.
